Happy Anniversary

Personal

Marriage Works! Let me introduce you to the love of my life, my handsome husband Chad! I’m a Texas girl, born and raised, he’s from a small town in upstate New York. Where did we meet?? Vermont! Vermont?? Yep, we both attended Norwich University our nation’s oldest private military college. He was a year ahead of me, so as a freshmen I had little social interaction with him. Remember it’s a military college so that year, for me, it was no talking or socializing with upperclassmen, shoot I couldn’t even walk where I wanted to for the first part of the year (in the gutter rook!). In fact if I hadn’t joined the drill team we probably wouldn’t have crossed paths. Even there we still weren’t allowed to really connect he was my cadre and I was just a freshmen. By the end of the year we did become friends but that was all there was.

Sophomore year was another story. As as Sophomore though still technically an underclassmen we had much more freedom. I could walk, sit and talk with whom I pleased. And it pleased me very much to talk with Chad. I’m not exactly sure when the switch flipped from friendship to something more but I clearly remember one fall day when I saw him across the upper parade ground. Something inside me jumped for joy, and so did I, right into his arms for the first of many Hubbard Hugs.

None of our friends could believe it. We were polar opposites. He was the nice guy and I was the crazy girl. Most of them assumed I would break his heart. Well three years later they were all there to watch us say “We Do” to begin our happily every after.

Eighteen years, four kids, one dog and seven military moves laters we are still very much in love and full of life and adventure. Our marriage hasn’t been easy or perfect but through every test we grew stronger and closer together. I love love. I love young love, it’s sweet, innocent and so fresh. But there is something about a love that has been tested, grown, and stood through time that is so beautiful to me. Happy Anniversary my love, I look forward to many more years of love and laughter with you.
